David has been married to Lucy for 38 years. They have 5 children, ranging in ages from 22  to 37. He started Northeast Wisconsin Radon Specialists in July of 2000.

Working for a local plumbing and heating company, he went through classes to become nationally certified for radon mitigation. The company he worked for decided to move to strictly commercial projects, leaving David without a job. His boss Terry recommended starting up a radon company, so he did, also getting certified for testing. He landed his first install in September that year, then quickly increased to 2 jobs a week. Some realty agents saw his work and spread the word of his workmanship, helping his company to grow. The next year he installed 186 systems.

The following year Chris Voight was hired to help install systems. With both they installed 350 systems. The work area spread outside of the northeast area. The company name was changed to Radon Specialists of Wisconsin and an office in Milwaukee and Sun Prairie was opened. During the last 5 years of ownership, he also designed and built homes under Compassion Homes.

Before David sold his company to a national franchise in 2019, they had installed 1500 systems that year. A non-compete agreement was signed. David kept in touch with friends in the industry.

David was also a member of AARST, joining in 2003. Through his reputation he was voted to the national board. In later years becoming a VP and finally the national president.

Many agents continued to ask David to come back to install systems. So, after the non-compete expired he decided to get back into the Radon business with his son Ben as equal partners. The goal is to build up the business again and hand over ownership completely to Ben in a few years.

Ben is single and lives in Neenah. After graduating high school, he joined Radon Specialists of Wisconsin as a helper. After learning from David and the other skilled installers there, he became certified for testing and mitigation.

After a few years of installing systems on his own, he moved to Milwaukee with two other employees to expand the service area, working independently and bringing even more success to the company. There he gained even more experience working on older buildings of different styles.

In 2019, Radon Specialists was sold. At the new company, he worked closely with several builders to establish design and best practices for radon-safe new construction. In several subdivisions from De Pere to Oak Creek, every house has a radon system designed, installed, and tested by him. He was also the troubleshooter sent to ensure quality and figure out the most difficult installations. Ben stayed on with the new owners until 2023.

Since then, Ben has worked with David on Compassion Homes, doing various types of construction and finish work as well as installing the radon systems.

In 2026, Ben and David are excited to begin a new company, work for ourselves, and do what we do best.
